Located south of Tampa Bay, Bradenton is on the Manatee River. Bradenton was thought of as a "blue-collar" town, with Sarasota to the south being the cultural capital of the area. Anna Maria Island, Manatee County Fl

To the west of Bradenton, across the Intracoastal Waterway is beautiful Anna Maria Island, offering white sandy un-crowded beaches and picture perfect sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico. Anna Maria has a casual Florida village atmosphere with a laid-back lifestyle. Bradenton Beach and Holmes Beach are located on central and southern Anna Maria Island. There are a few older beach motels, condominiums and even some beach cottages that have years of history associated with them.

Longboat Key, West of 
Bradenton and Sarasota

To the south of Anna Maria is Longboat Key. You will find many condos and resorts, as well as single family homes and gated communities. Golf courses and excellent restaurants are plentiful on Longboat Key. On both islands, the beaches are refreshingly natural, with protected wild sea oats and mangroves providing a protective habitat for the scores of native island birds that share the island, as well as the dolphins, manatees and other aquatic wildlife living just offshore.

The Manatee River crosses through Manatee County, separating Palmetto and Ellenton on the north side from Bradenton on the south.  Longboat Key, the next barrier island south, is popular with shell hunters along its beaches.
